PICTURES THAT WERE NEVER PAINTED*
By Gays for Gays | We Make Gay Art Visible
* Almost all of the artists to whom we attribute our images never painted gay subjects, although many were gay themselves. We show what they were not allowed to paint.

Gay Art – The Mirror of Versailles – The Magic That Makes Gay Love Visible
Whoever enters the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles forgets who they are.
Gold, crystal, endless light – this room has no walls, only reflections of reflections. You get lost. You become small. And precisely at this moment – overwhelmed, speechless, completely immersed in wonder – the magic happens.
A mirror, grand and mighty like their feelings for each other, captures the young men and shows what their hearts have long known. Their love is revealed – naked, a kiss, tender, natural. As if they had stepped into a fairy tale. In love in Paris. Enchanted in Versailles.
Our idea: a gay time travel in the legendary Palace of Versailles. Which artist should inspire our images? The choice was easy. It could only be Claude Monet, the great and magnificent master of French Impressionism. Monet painted plants, he painted his garden – but we bring his art, his style, into France's second national sanctuary next to the Eiffel Tower, into the unique Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.
Claude Monet (1840–1926) is considered the founder of Impressionism. He painted light – on water, in blossoms, in the fog of the Seine. His garden in Giverny, his water lilies, his cathedrals in the morning light: Monet saw the world as a vibration of color and moment. He never painted the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. No one knows what it would have looked like. No painter has ever conceived of a mirror as we do.

Nothing is more beautiful than...
In Japan, during the annual fertility festival, they parade giant symbolic phalluses through the city. I confess, I, being crazy about cocks, wish we had this gesture in our culture too. As boys, we wake up one morning with a wooden feeling between our legs, and from then on, there's no peace. During puberty, it stands up at every inappropriate moment, no matter what we're thinking. Later, it reminds us every morning, having turned into a latte, that it controls us. That's no real excuse for harassing women with dick pics. But as gay men, we at least have one privilege: we are quite free to show each other our tools and be ecstatic about the other's. To art that elevates our fantasy
