Where penises are censored, we just take bananas - NEW AT KUNSTWERK BILDER

Wo Penis zensiert wird, nehmen wir eben Bananen - NEU BEI KUNSTWERK BILDER

Sometimes our creativity is especially challenged. I gave a very simple task to an AI: show a penis covered by a condom in rainbow colors. But the word penis alone triggered the red censorship flags of AI models trained in US-American hypocritical prudery. Penis — that is the devil in that country where Sunday schools still teach that the Earth was created in seven days. For my creativity, however, this gave a clear boost. The banana idea was born. My cynically peaceful response to the censorship attack.

Creativity, queerness and a wink — these are the ingredients we use to design products that are more than simple items. In our shop you’ll find little provocations, lovingly crafted designs and statements that are both fun and meaningful. One example is our "Bananen Spiele": a playful, queer-friendly approach to a product that draws attention while conveying our convictions.

Why a product like "Bananen Spiele" is more than a gag

At first glance it seems like a funny gimmick — bananas playing a role that brings a smile. But there’s more behind the idea: it’s about visibility, the right to fun and self-determination, and the connection of art, activism and everyday life. In a scene that often swings between commercial quick shots and serious statements, we want to create products that can do both: entertain and take a stand.

Queer, creative, community-oriented: What sets us apart as a shop

As one of the leading shops for gay art, we are deeply rooted in the queer community — not just as a point of sale, but as a space for exchange. Our products are created in close dialogue with artists, activists and customers. This close link ensures that each object tells a story and has a place within the community.

  • Direct exchange: ideas arise from conversations and the needs of the community.
  • Local and queer artists: We support creative voices that are often overlooked.
  • Statement products: design that shows conviction — instead of mere mass-produced goods.

Our USP compared to other shops

Compared to generic shops or anonymous mass products, we focus on three clear differences:

  • Concept instead of confection: Each product starts with an idea that carries meaning — whether humor, political critique, or cultural reference points.
  • Community-first approach: Our collections grow from genuine community participation; that makes them more relevant and long-lasting.
  • Artistic quality: We work with designers who understand visual language and use it for queer-specific narratives instead of generic trends.

"Bananen Spiele": humor meets conviction

"Bananen Spiele" is typical of our signature: winkingly cheeky and with a clear reference to queer culture. We’re not just aiming to stand out — we want to offer something that sparks conversation, creates identification and is fun. That’s why this product is not just a funny motif, but a deliberate choice for visibility and self-determination.

Who is this for?

For anyone who wants to show conviction with a smile — whether as a gift, a statement accessory or simply as part of a colorful collection. "Bananen Spiele" especially appeals to people who appreciate queer-cultural codes and prefer products that say more than just "they look nice".

Design, ethics and authenticity

It’s not just about looks for us. Authenticity means taking responsibility — toward artists, the community and the people who buy our products. This is reflected in fair production decisions, transparent partnerships and in our selection of collaborations. We want every purchase to be an expression of conviction and at the same time fun.

How "Bananen Spiele" fits your queer-cultural identity

Queer culture lives off symbols, humor and bold images. Products like "Bananen Spiele" work on multiple levels: they are a statement, a conversation starter and sometimes simply pure aesthetic pleasure. Surrounding yourself with such objects shows openness — and makes a positive, confident statement in everyday life.

We celebrate diversity, artistic freedom and the joy of living queer — with a laugh and with conviction.
