PICTURES THAT WERE NEVER PAINTED*
By Gays for Gays | We Make Gay Art Visible
* Almost all of the artists to whom we attribute our images never painted gay subjects, although many were gay themselves. We show what they were not allowed to paint.

Golden Youth - Inspired by Gustav Klimt
What if Klimt had painted love between men?
Klimt, the master who clothed the beauty of women in golden robes, their sensuality, their power; what if this very Gustav Klimt had also turned his gaze to young men? Perhaps to three youths standing side by side, surrounded by his golden ornaments – a scene he never painted. Unfortunately. On the left, the geometric squares, on the right the ornamental band with colorful patterns, between them three bodies in warm gold. This mural makes up for what Klimt did not paint – and shows how timeless his style is.
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was the foremost representative of the Viennese Art Nouveau and co-founder of the Vienna Secession. His “Golden Phase” (1899-1910) produced iconic works such as “The Kiss” and the “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.” Klimt’s style is characterized by ornamental patterns, gold applications, flat compositions, and a sensual portrayal of the human body. He revolutionized painting by combining symbolism, eroticism, and decorative art.
The three youths stand side by side, their arms around each other – a gesture of connection, brotherhood, love. The ornaments frame them, the colors make them shine. Klimt’s style meets a depiction that would have been unthinkable in his time. Artistic nude painting in the tradition of the Old Masters – timeless, powerful, beautiful.

Nothing is more beautiful than...
In Japan, during the annual fertility festival, they parade giant symbolic phalluses through the city. I confess, I, being crazy about cocks, wish we had this gesture in our culture too. As boys, we wake up one morning with a wooden feeling between our legs, and from then on, there's no peace. During puberty, it stands up at every inappropriate moment, no matter what we're thinking. Later, it reminds us every morning, having turned into a latte, that it controls us. That's no real excuse for harassing women with dick pics. But as gay men, we at least have one privilege: we are quite free to show each other our tools and be ecstatic about the other's. To art that elevates our fantasy
