In Prussia, nudity was only allowed in art – as allegory, as myth, as sculpture. But never as gay love. This image shows what could have been: An officer who does not take off his uniform, but sheds his hardness. A young man who dares to be naked – not only physically, but emotionally. The painting technique recalls the classical portrait painting of the 19th century – soft transitions, realistic skin tones, precise details.
